HOME SAUNAS

Home Saunas in the Twin Cities

A private retreat built for Minnesota winters, and for every evening in between.

There is a reason sauna culture runs deep in the Upper Midwest: generations of Minnesota families brought the ritual with them, and a January evening makes the case better than any brochure could. We design and build custom home saunas across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding suburbs, rooms shaped around your home, your routine, and the way you want to feel.

Why the Twin Cities

Why the Twin Cities is sauna country

Minnesota winters turn a home sauna from a luxury into a daily habit.

The climate is the first reason. A sauna that is steps from the kitchen, in January, is a different thing entirely from a gym membership you have to drive to. Heat, then the cold air after, is a ritual this region understands better than almost anywhere.

The housing stock is the second. Twin Cities homes have the spaces saunas love: finished basements in Edina and Plymouth four-levels, spare corners in South Minneapolis bungalows, wellness wings in newer Woodbury builds, and lake properties around Minnetonka with room for an outdoor retreat.

And the culture is the third. Finnish heritage runs deep here, from the Iron Range to the cities. A sauna at home is not an exotic purchase in Minnesota. It is a return to something familiar.

Why a home sauna

Why a home sauna

The best wellness habit is the one you actually keep. A sauna at home turns recovery from an occasional treat into an easy, everyday ritual, especially when the alternative is going outside in February.

Relaxation: quiet warmth that unwinds the day.

Stress relief: time for your mind to settle.

Recovery: gentle heat that soothes tired muscles after work, workouts, or a day on the ice.

Circulation: warmth that leaves you feeling refreshed and restored.

No commute, no locker room, no closing time. Just a short walk and a better evening.

Traditional or infrared

Traditional or infrared

Both are good choices. They simply feel different.

A traditional sauna heats the air with a heater and stones, reaching higher temperatures with optional steam for the classic, enveloping experience. Many people love the ritual of it: the pour of water, the wave of heat.

An infrared home sauna warms your body directly with gentle infrared panels at lower air temperatures. The warmth feels softer and steadier, and sessions can be shorter. People who want an easier, gentler entry often start here.

There is no wrong answer, and we will help you choose based on how you like to feel, not on trends.

Design and materials

Design and materials

A sauna should feel like a room you look forward to entering, especially when the view outside is snow.

Cedar and other sauna woods: warm, aromatic, and naturally suited to years of heat and humidity.

Thoughtful bench layouts: tiers and orientations shaped around your space and how you sit.

Integrated lighting: soft, low light that keeps the mood calm.

Stone accents: a tactile, grounding detail around the heater and walls.

Glass doors and windows: light and openness, or full enclosure for total privacy.

Indoor or outdoor

Indoor or outdoor

Both work beautifully. It comes down to your home and your rituals.

Indoors, a sauna tucks neatly into a basement, bathroom, home gym, or wellness room, close to showers and changing space. It becomes part of the daily routine, whatever the weather.

Outdoors, an outdoor sauna can sit by the pool, on the patio, or at the end of a garden path as its own small retreat. Cool air, warm wood, open sky, many people consider it the purest sauna experience there is.

Space and planning, made simple

Space and planning, made simple

You need less room than most people expect. A comfortable two-person sauna fits in a corner that might otherwise hold exercise equipment.

During design, we sort out the practical details for you: size and seating, the right heat source, electrical requirements, ventilation sized for tight winter construction, and easy access to a shower or changing area. You bring the space and the intention. We handle the rest.

Questions, answered

Questions, answered

Do you build home saunas in the Twin Cities?

Yes. We design and build custom home saunas for homes throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding suburbs, from our base in Knapp, Wisconsin.

How far do you travel?

The entire Twin Cities metro is well within our regular service area, from Edina and Wayzata to Woodbury and Stillwater. We also serve clients across the Midwest and nationwide.

Indoor or outdoor sauna for a Minnesota home?

Both work here. Indoor saunas win on convenience through the winter months. Outdoor builds give you the classic cold air and hot wood experience. We will help you weigh your space, your routine, and your property.

Can a sauna fit in a finished basement?

Very often, yes. Many Twin Cities homes have basement space that works beautifully with proper ventilation and planning. We will assess yours during the consultation.

How long does a build take?

Most home sauna projects take a few weeks from confirmed design to your first session, depending on scope and any electrical or construction work involved. We will give you a clear timeline up front.
